APPLE TO DROP LIST PRICES BY 100%
Company To Change its Net Domain Name to Apple.org
HAWUDINO, CA /DenounceNewswire/ -- February 10, 1997 --
In an unprecedented and aggressive move, beleagured Apple Computer
today announced that effective immediately it would drop prices by 100% across-the-board
on all of its products.
Speaking from his car, which was being serviced at a local gas station, Apple Chairman
Gilbert Amelio made the announcement to the mechanic who at first did not understand
what Mr. Amelio had said, and then later admitted that he didn't really care.
Asked if this announcement meant that Apple was giving its products away for free,
Mr. Amelio said, "Yes, that is exactly what we are doing. After meeting with the
board of directors, we have decided to focus Apple back on its core competencies.
We know how to give stuff away without making money on it like no-one else in this
business."
Concurrent with this announcement was a related announcement of Apple's changing its
internet domain name from Apple.com to Apple.org. Asked for the significance of
this move, Mr. Amelio replied, "Org domains are strictly reserved for non-profit
organizations, and we felt that the new domain name better reflected on Apple's
true nature."
Steve Jobs, whose NeXT company was recently bought by Apple for $400 million,
could not be reached for comment, as he had to leave to drive over to his local bank
an appointment. Witnesses at Apple and at the bank later confirmed that Mr. Jobs was
laughing the entire time.
About Apple
Apple Computer, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that spends billions of dollars
on developing innovative computing products and then fails miserably at marketing
