Cisco To Launch National TV Ad Campaign; Company Hopes to Sell Routers to Consumers

SAN HELIFINO, CA /DenounceNewswire/ -- August 17, 1998 -- Cisco Systems said today it is launching its first television advertising campaign this month.

The Internet networking company did disclose the exact amount of the cost of the campaign, but the amount was not noteworthy and so is not being reported. A series of 30- and 60-second spots will appear on major national TV networks starting August 24. The spots, which will appear in the upper left-hand corner of television screens, can only be removed by purchasing a spot-remover spray, such as 409 or Mr. Clean.

Cisco's campaign focuses on the benefits of routers in the home, as well as at the office.

``One of our goals is to brag about how Cisco was in the right place at the right time with the right product in the right market, and how we all got filthy rich," said Phil T. Richardson, a vice president of corporate marketing.

Cisco aims to elevate its brand image as the global Internet communications leader and expand its customer base and appeal with the new ads. However, some observers are expressing concern that Cisco may be making a mistake. "If you know what a router is, you're probably not watching TV," quipped Indu Strypundit, an industry pundit, further quipping, "and if you watch TV, you probably don't know what a router is, nor do you want to know."

The television spots will complement Cisco's print and on- line ads. San Francisco-based marketing firm Goldberg Silverberg Bronzeberg Platinumberg Scheisskopf created the ads.
