DOCTORS SUCCESSFULLY REMOVE INTERNET EXPLORER 4.0 FROM COMPAQ PRESARIOQWERTYUIOP, WA /DenounceNewswire/ -- January 28, 1998 -- A team of surgeons successfully removed Microsoft Corporation's Internet Explorer 4.0 from a Compaq Presario model 4550 personal computer today, calling the ten-hour effort a first in computer history. "We beleieve we scraped off every last byte of IE4 off of this machine's hard disk," stated Dr. Cal Meinmorn, head surgon at PC Hostpital in Qwertyiop, Washington, located nowhere near Seattle. "We now know what to do and we fully expect we'll be able to streamline the procedure to the point that it only takes ten minutes, unless Microsoft gets sneaky and hides IE4 bits in new locations in the future." "It's amazing just how intertwined that pesky IE4 managed to get," added Dr. Meinmorn. "Just when we thought we'd removed it all, we'd discover another complete working copy of the application stuck in another directory elsewhere on the disk drive." The descision to operate came after a CompUSA customer reported that the Compaq Presario 4550 computer he'd just purchased was "infested" with the Microsoft application. "No matter what I did, that damn IE4 would appear in some form or another. It was supremely annoying," the customer said. A PC Hospital spokesperson said the customer would not be charged for the operation, as the procedure was "for the good of all mankind".
